In the Belem Declaration resulting from the August 2023 Amazonia Head of State Summit, eight countries of the Amazon Basin agreed to a unified vision to protect the rainforest. Delivering on that vision will require innovative finance, biodiversity conservation and supporting Indigenous People. This event will explore locally-led solutions, including the joint launch of CI’s Amazonia Vital Reserves program with France; Indigenous-led initiatives in the Southwest Amazon supported by the GEF Inclusive Conservation Initiative; and other pathways to a climate-safe future that balance production and protection.
