Navigating the changing landscape of high integrity in tropical forest carbon crediting

Wildlife Conservation Society

Monday 23rd September 2024
13:30 - 14:30

This session aims to help corporates and other buyers navigate a changing landscape for evaluating the integrity of forest carbon credits. Over the past few years, various initiatives have emerged to help determine best practice relating to the quality and appropriate use of carbon credits, including [tropical] forest carbon credits. One initiative, the Tropical Forest Credit Integrity (TFCI) coalition, is a partnership of 8 organizations that developed recommendations and implementation guidance (https://tfciguide.org/) for buyers seeking high quality tropical forest carbon credits that meet criteria for environmental and social integrity and can also contribute meaningfully to global climate action. Other initiatives include the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM) and the Science-Based Targets Initiative (SBTi). This roundtable discussion, hosted by TFCI partners, will provide an update on developments to define credit “integrity” in global carbon markets and identify outstanding issues and gaps relating specifically to forest carbon and REDD+ crediting. Location: Convene, 101 Park Ave, New York. Room: Park Hub.
