Accelerating the transition to renewable energy is critical for progress toward Paris goals. However, conflicts over land use may slow the transition if concerns about potential impacts to biodiversity and local communities are not proactively addressed. The latest science demonstrates that there are abundant opportunities for renewable energy to be readily deployed in ways that pose low impact to biodiversity and nature. By integrating the consideration of biodiversity into energy planning, policy, siting, and markets, we can avoid or reduce conflicts, delays, and impacts to accelerate the renewable energy transition. Innovative partnerships across governments, NGOs, industry, and further segments of society provide essential opportunities to accelerate meeting climate and biodiversity goals.
