Climate instability, biodiversity loss, and land degradation are interconnected crises, and so are the solutions. Protecting and restoring biodiversity, land and ecosystems enhances resilience, which in turn enhances humanity’s ability to adapt to environmental change, more effectively manage its land, concurrently supporting climate mitigation and adaptation.

An unprecedented opportunity exists right now to support governments to align national biodiversity targets and plans (NBSAPs), -which are currently undergoing revision-, with the national climate targets in the new NDCs. This moment presents a crucial opportunity to scale up climate action that yields resilient livelihoods and ecosystems by better integrating nature-based solutions into NDCs.

This webinar will present tools and approaches for incorporating ambition in NDCs through nature-based solutions, particularly as these relate to resilience to climate change adaptation, loss and damage, and opportunities for mitigation within nontraditional sectors. Identifying opportunities for incorporating nature within climate planning not only facilitates policy coherence, but can also better support countries deliver implementation of both climate and nature goals.
The Nature4Climate coalition, as the webinar’s special guest will present its Guide for Including Nature in NDCs, which has been developed to assist national policy makers involved in the revision of NDC. UNDP will present geospatial tools and analysis to better guide NDC implementation through nature. Peru will share how they have included nature in NDC target setting and implementation strategies.

A complementary webinar scheduled for April will focus more specifically on maximizing the role of the AFOLU sector to scale up NDCs and NBSAPs.
