Global Alliance of Territorial Communities (GATC)

World Congress of the 3 Forest Basins

Kintele, Brazzaville (Republic of Congo)

Monday 26th May 2025 - Friday 30th May 2025
Brazzaville (Republic of Congo)

This congress aims to consolidate the process of coordination and cooperation between indigenous peoples and local communities of the world’s forest basins (Amazon, Congo, and Borneo-Mekong-Southeast Asia, Meso-America), with the goal of creating a global coalition to support the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (2021-2030).

The integration of climate and biodiversity issues will be encouraged, taking into account the rights and contributions of our peoples, who are often treated separately in international agreements. This coalition will act as an influential force within international bodies, highlighting the relevance of Meso-America and other forest basins in the global context.

Expected Results

  • Increased recognition of indigenous peoples’ contributions to ecosystem preservation
  • Development of an action plan for sustainable forest management in forest basins
  • Joint declaration for climate finance at COP30
  • Strong mobilization of indigenous women and youth
  • Strengthening of strategic alliances between all involved stakeholders
