In 2015, Mato Grosso – Brazil’s largest agricultural producer – launched the Produce, Conserve, Include strategy (PCI) to support sustainable and inclusive economic growth through 2030. The strategy’s ambitious goals aim to conserve natural vegetation, enhance productivity and increase inclusion of smallholders and indigenous people in economic growth. Achieving these goals could avoid over 6 gigatons of emissions by 2030 while proving that strong economic growth and thriving forests are complementary. Collaboration between civil society, producers, governments, and, increasingly, the private sector is key to the success of the PCI. Several first-mover companies are ramping up engagement in the PCI to achieve both their sustainability goals and those of Mato Grosso. During this event, speakers from the Mato Grosso government, the PCI Institute, and the first-mover companies committing to new actions will provide insight into what cross-sectoral collaboration at the jurisdictional level can achieve.
