Join us for the World Premier of the short movie “Protecting the Heart of Mexico,” by award-winning filmmakers Kristin Gates and Jeremy Là Zelle. It showcases a local grassroots movement with a passionate portrait of a mother and son fighting to protect a corner of Mother Earth, who take society and governments to task to achieve conservation, civil participation, adaptation and climate change mitigation. Duration: 23 minutes. This discussion and film focus on how to alleviate Mother Earth in solidarity with flora and fauna, feeling the shame and the emergency, setting the pace for 32 years of activism for the land and the advancement of local communities. Since its foundation in 1989, World Land Trust has funded partner organizations around the world to create reserves and give permanent protection to habitats and wildlife. To date, WLT has helped secure more than 774,282 acres of threatened habitat in 20 countries. GESGIAP is the principal organization of the Sierra Gorda Conservation Alliance. Together 4 grassroots organizations drive community based solutions that specialize in environmental education, solid waste management, wildlands conservation, sustainable rural tourism, women and youth leadership, enforcement and interinstitutional microenterprise development and payment for environmental services that have won numerous international awards: National Geographic Buffet Award and World Legacy Award; CPF Wangari Maathai Award, among others.
