The journey to COP30 in Belém, Brazil, with stops at CBD COP16 in Cali and UNFCCC COP29 in Baku, is critical for securing the financial support needed for global biodiversity and climate initiatives. At CBD COP16, discussions will push the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework forward, aiming to mobilise at least $200 billion annually by 2030 to combat biodiversity loss. Meanwhile, COP29 in Baku will focus on setting a new climate finance target, establishing a baseline of $100 billion annually by 2025. The success of COP30 hinges on finalising Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and delivering the financial mechanisms to implement these plans.
This session will bring together high-level representatives from the upcoming presidencies of the Rio Conventions to align priorities, explore collaboration opportunities, and create a shared vision for COP30’s success in securing necessary funding for nature recovery by 2030.
This roundtable will also spotlight the financial pathways leading to COP30, featuring government authorities and private sector leaders committed to tackling the climate and biodiversity crises whilst promoting nature-positive economic outcomes. The hour-long discussion will underscore the urgent need for substantial financial commitments and innovative tools to support nature-related initiatives.
