Since the 2015 Paris Agreement, a growing number of countries have recognized the importance of natural climate solutions to enhance ambition on climate action, including through conservation, restoration and management of coastal ecosystems. These activities for mitigation (blue carbon) and adaptation (coastal resilience and food security) offer an opportunity in the upcoming revised NDCs as well as starting to think about how to include these critical ecosystems in other relevant policies and plans. We will hear about how increasing blue carbon in climate commitments is essential to accelerating the conservation of coastal ecosystems, as well as to mitigate climate change and enhance resilience and adaptation efforts through government experiences and case studies. This session will also require participation from all to facilitate broader awareness-raising and diving into key questions.

Join experts in this interactive workshop that aims to share experiences to realize the opportunity of coastal ecosystems to scale up ambitions and what is needed to start recognizing the transformational impact of coastal ecosystems in their NDCs and other policies.
