For the second year, the Nature Hub will host its unbranded program at Climate Week NYC, focusing on accelerating global investments in nature-based solutions (NbS). The agenda, shaped by the Nature4Climate Coalition and 12 environmental non-profits and philanthropic organizations, aims to influence ‘nature finance’ calls to action for upcoming climate and biodiversity global conferences COP16, COP29, and COP30. Over two days, the hub will offer events and networking opportunities in central New York for more than 1,000 participants, including investors, private sector leaders, financial institutions, NbS experts, Indigenous Peoples’ representatives, policymakers and public finance professionals.
Theme: ‘Transitioning to a nature-positive, net-zero economy’
The 2024 Nature Hub agenda aims to answer the question: how we can build a nature-positive and net-zero economy by shifting from the current exploitation model to one that values natural ecosystems’ regeneration and sustainability. A nature-positive economy offers businesses new markets and financial mechanisms, steering away from deforestation-related activities. By investing in nature-based solutions and funding nature-positive activities, governments and the private sector can achieve climate and biodiversity goals, generate economic returns, and benefit local communities. This is why the agenda, featuring more than 40 events, will primarily focus on five urgent transformations needed:
- End deforestation;
- Ensure a sustainable food and land use transition;
- Build high-integrity carbon markets;
- Facilitate direct financing for Indigenous Peoples and local communities;
- Establish equitable flows of public financing.
