The Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) and its Nature Positive mission to halt and reverse biodiversity loss has spurred a growing number of companies to develop nature-positive commitments for their operations and supply chains. Meanwhile regulators are taking an increasing interest in green claims of companies, requiring reporting of companies’ impacts on nature and developing regulation to ensure a companies’ impact is net-positive for nature.
A major business challenge is therefore how to measure and report their positive or negative outcomes for nature in standardized and comparable ways. This session will discuss the development of common ‘state of nature metrics’ to drive, monitor and demonstrate Nature Positive outcomes.
The event will present and discuss progress on reaching consensus on meaningful and practical state of nature metrics in order to accelerate collective action toward securing a nature positive world. These metrics can act as the primary means of measuring changes in the state of nature, and thus nature positive outcomes, supporting a number of key use cases. Commitments will then be sought from a group of businesses, framework developer(s) and standard setters to pilot and adopt the metrics
