A powerful first day in New York City for nature-based solutions and calls for action to protect, restore and fund nature ahead of the official start of UN Climate Action on Monday. Tzam Tigre Tzamarenda, a shaman from Ecuador, offers a traditional blessing to commence the week calling for action and solidarity to help reverse the impacts of environmental destruction and escalating climate change.

A powerful first day in New York City for nature-based solutions and calls for action to protect, restore and fund nature ahead of the official start of UN Climate Action on Monday.

Sachem HawkStorm of the Schaghticoke First Nation offers a powerful welcome to country. He is joined by Chief Tashka Yawanawa from the Brazilian Amazon, as well as by Tzam Tigre Tzamarenda, a shaman from Ecuador, who offers a traditional blessing to commence the week calling for action and solidarity to help reverse the impacts of environmental destruction and escalating climate change. He invites attendees to raise their hands in a prayer with the words, “we are united to save the planet.”

That message was echoed by high-level speakers throughout the day, including environmental ministers from Chile, Norway, Colombia, Costa Rica. Ecuador, Gabon, Brazil in what may be as Chief Tashka Yawanawa from Brazil says, ‘a final call’ to wake up.
