Harnessing the Power of Wildlife Conservation as a Nature-Based Solution to Climate Change and Biodiversity Loss
International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW)
Sunday 10th December 2023
17:00 - 19:00
This event will present the latest scientific evidence and programmatic learning on the important role that is played by wild animals, such as whales, elephants and other large herbivores, in addressing the climate crisis. It will also show how wildlife conservation programmes support animals to perform these functions in ways that mitigate global warming, and also deliver adaptation benefits for communities and economies, thereby helping countries and investors to meet their targets on the Paris Agreement, CBD and the SDGs. IFAW will present evidence on inclusion of wildlife conservation and ecosystem protection in the Nationally determined Contributions of African countries and other LDCs, and panellists explore the challenges faced in integrating wildlife conservation into climate action plans and financing the use of wildlife conservation as a form of climate action.
The event will be followed by a drinks reception.
